Krav Maga for Self Defence

We teach self-defence in accordance with the law of England and Wales through the system overseen by Krav Maga Global, an organisation founded by Eyal Yanilov, the foremost assistant and recipient of the highest rank from the creator of Krav Maga, Imi Sde-Or Lichtenfeldt. Classes cover striking, grappling and ground-work, focusing on high-percentage, gross-motor techniques that are easy to learn and deploy under stress. This includes techniques banned in combat sports such as headbutts, biting, gouging, and intentional striking of the eyes and groin. At the other end of the scale, we also cover less-lethal techniques to ensure trainees are able to scale force as a situation demands. The emphasis is on fighting to create space to escape, and in a context of trying to avoid, prevent, evade and de-escalate situations in line with the law. We use managed compliance and improvised weapons where appropriate and available. Other frequently covered topics include knife defences, multiple attackers, robberies and snatch-thefts, and defending third parties. Students are expected to participate in frequent, light sparring scaled to their physical abilities. Gumshields are essential, and groin guards are highly recommended. Boxing gloves can be provided, but it is recommended that students bring their own MMA sparring gloves (7/8oz), shin guards, as well as headgear if they wish to use it.
